St Elizabeth Hospice
We strongly support the St Elizabeth Hospice. The St Elizabeth Hospice improves life for people living with a progressive illness. The work of the Hospice is centred around an individual’s needs, which means specialist support, wherever it is required, whether at home, in the community or at the Hospice. The Hospice helps people deal with problems such as pain, anxiety and fatigue, as well as offering practical advice and family support.
St Elizabeth Hospice provides palliative care. Palliative care:
- describes care given to patients with active, progressive and advanced illness for whom the focus of care is quality of life.
- involves providing relief from pain and other distressing symptoms.
- aims to treat patients in a holistic way providing physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual support.
- includes support and care for families, friends and carers.
St Elizabeth Hospice is an independent charity which provides services free of charge. Services cost £9.1 million a year to run, with almost three quarters of that figure coming from the local community.
